Bangladesh regulator limits scope for bonuses against sales

10 November 2021

The Bangladesh Telecommunicating Regulatory Commission limited the scope of issuing bonuses by telcos to their subscribers at subsidised rates against sales of data, SMS and talk time packages.

It imposed the cap under Mobile Data Package Guidelines that were introduced in March this year. While they allow mobile operators to issue a bonus to customers against the sale of regular and special packages, they are not allowed to do so with the bonus lower than the cost of the product.

The watchdog has alsp limited the total number of regular and special packages to 85 for the time being.
